Constantinos Christou

Constantinos Christou is a Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Cyprus and vice-president of the Board of the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education. He previously served as the president of the Governing Body of the Open University of Cyprus, vice-president of Cyprus Council for the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications (Ky.S.A.T.S) and vice-president of the Accreditation Council of Cyprus (S.Ek.A.P). He was also a member of the board of “European Society for Research in Mathematics Education”. He participated as coordinator and partner in a number of European research projects and was the coordinator of five other research projects funded by the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus Research Foundation and Leventis Foundation (e.g., Dalest, Calgeo, InnoMathEd, KeyCoMath). He was the National Coordinator for PISA and TIMSS study in Cyprus. Finally, he is a member of the committee for the Cyprus National Curriculum in Mathematics, and scientific advisor of the committee for the mathematics textbooks, which are currently used in primary and secondary schools of Cyprus. His research in mathematics education can be divided mainly into four areas: mathematics curriculum, cognitive development of mathematical concepts, ICT integration in mathematics teaching, and problem solving. He has published extensively books, book chapters, journal articles and conference proceedings.
